Fundraising Strategy
Fundraising strategy lies at the heart of successful charitable organisations, and my experience at Fauna & Flora highlights how transformative strategic leadership can be. As Director of Fundraising and Communications, I spearheaded significant enhancements across the fundraising programme, driving unprecedented growth in unrestricted income from approximately £1.5 million to over £6 million annually.
Under my leadership, we strategically expanded the regular donor base from fewer than 2,000 supporters to more than 20,000 within five years, building a robust foundation for sustained financial stability and growth. Central to this achievement was the implementation of targeted, donor-centric strategies and compelling campaigns that resonated deeply with supporters.
I also successfully directed high-value fundraising campaigns, including securing substantial funding for critical projects—most notably raising $6 million for a landmark land purchase in Belize and $2 million to support emergency resilience measures for partners during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Understanding the critical synergy between fundraising and communications, I integrated these functions into one cohesive directorate. This strategic restructuring united philanthropy, trusts and foundations, institutional funding, and individual giving, significantly improving operational efficiency and campaign effectiveness. Additionally, I led the comprehensive redevelopment of Fauna & Flora’s website, optimising it specifically to maximise fundraising potential and enhance donor engagement.
My approach to fundraising strategy combines strategic clarity, integrated communications, and a deep understanding of donor motivations, enabling charities to achieve ambitious financial goals and amplify their mission.
